Marina Vidaki, PhD

Group Leader,

Assistant Professor,

Cellular Molecular Biology,

Faculty of Medicine,

University of Crete

Greece

I grew up in Greece and studied Biology at the University of Crete, in Heraklion, where I also pursued a MSc in Molecular Biology, and a PhD in Developmental Neuroscience, at the University of Crete and the Institute of Molecular Biology & Biotechnology (IMBB). During my graduate studies I focused my research on the development of the cerebral cortex, and became interested in neuronal migration and axon guidance. I continued my postdoctoral research at MIT, in the laboratory of Frank Gertler, where I worked on neuronal cell biology, uncovering novel mechanisms of local translation regulation during neuronal development.

If I were not a Scientist, I would be: on vacation more often...

Sofia Pasadaki, MSc

PhD Candidate, 2019-

Faculty of Medicine, University of Crete,

Greece

Sofia comes from Crete. She studied Biology at the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, where she also obtained her MSc on Applications of Biology in Medicine. She is currently interested in the molecular mechanisms that regulate axonal protein synthesis and their implication in adult axon regeneration.

In her spare time she enjoys running, reading and going to the movies.

If I were not a Scientist, I would be: a water polo player (!?!?!)

Manolis Agrimakis, BSc

PhD Candidate, 2022-

Faculty of Medicine, University of Crete,

Greece

Manolis comes from Rethymno, Crete. He studied Biology  at the University of Crete and obtained his MSc from the Neuroscience Masters’ Program at the School of Medicine., University of Crete. He aims to investigate the contribution of the Mena-RNP in the regulation of local protein translation in synapses.

In his spare time, he enjoys activities such as hiking and swimming.
